Exploring The Unknown
Curiosity Junkie is for people who are curious about life, death and everything in between. It’s about discovering the unknown, the known, the internal and the external. Honestly, it’s about making the unknown a little less scary and a lot more fun!
I created Curiosity Junkie out of 2 passions. The first passion is to bring joy and happiness to others, without putting my own joy and happiness at risk. The second passion is for inclusion. I’m a big fan of bringing people together, because united we stand, divided we fall. My goal is to eliminate fear of the unknown, to open my eyes to a world much bigger than me or my thoughts and beliefs.
“The Opposite Of What You Know Is Also True.”
This brings me to my favorite quote and one I hope you find thought provoking. Its from Thich Nhat Hanh, a Zen Master. “The opposite of what you know is also true.”
We only know what we are taught, by people who only know what they are taught. You get the idea. Usually we are taught to believe this is the only “Truth.” But somewhere on the opposite side of the table, city, state, country, world, someone else is being taught a different “Truth” by people who were taught what they know by people who were taught what they know… and so on, again, you get the idea.
I Thought Of It This Way.
As a baby my world was very small and it encompassed the people who cared for me. When I became a toddler my world expanded to include my family and my house and I explored it with great curiosity. As a child my world expanded to include my family, my house, my neighborhood, my school and my friends, which I explored with great curiosity. As a teenager and young adult, my world expanded even more to include my city, my state and multiple connecting states, and maybe even a country or two that I continued to explore with wonder and great curiosity.
But at some point, my world began to close. I began to fear the unknown. I lost my wonder and curiosity for all things outside of me, outside of my beliefs, outside of my “Truth.”
My Quest
And so, about 3 years ago as I began a spiritual journey of sorts, I came across this quote and it changed my life. Then I realized in that moment that my mind was only capable of understanding what it was taught and I could teach it anything. I chose not to continue to grow my mind, my thinking and closed off to anything outside of my “truths.”
When I opened my mind and listened with compassion and willingness to learn and understand, my world began to expand. Then I began to travel moreand to love myself more. It became easier to make friends everywhere I went because I was open to new experiences, to new “truths.”
Trapped By Fear And Trapped By Our Own “Truths”
I am not saying you have to abandon your values or beliefs, those are your
“Truths” and you should cherish them. When we hold tightly to our own truths we are not open to learning. We struggle to understand someone else’s truths and we will never come together in solidarity.
We will always have exclusion and exclusiveness and live in a fear of the unknown. Which keeps us trapped in our own truths, it keeps us trapped in our own small mindedness. Ultimately keeping us trapped by fear. Our fear of the unknown, fear of those who are different than us, fear of what we don’t understand.
My Hope And My Dream
My hope is, you will let go of your fears and open your minds. That you will open your hearts to wonder and curiosity as we explore the unknown. As we explore the opposite of what we know to be true.
Join me on this curiosity adventure as we explore life, death and everything in between. Because I believe, together we can make the world less scary and a lot more fun!
